Tampa, FL – February, 2015 – HTG Architects has been selected to design the interior for Epic Boxing and Fitness, a new fitness concept in Tampa headed by Jaye Maddon, wife of former Tampa Bay Rays Manager Joe Maddon. The new center is located across from the University of Tampa at 1108 West Kennedy Boulevard.
The approximately 3,000 square foot interior features an open plan with a raised spinner bike section and a 24 bag custom punching bag frame. Custom lighting and sound systems will provide flexibility in the creation of ambient scenarios for the workout routines. Jaye Maddon said the workout is called “Spoxing” and it mirrors a professional boxing match–12 rounds, 3 minutes each round with 30 seconds rest in between. Clients will spend the first three rounds on the spin bikes, then transition to the bags for the remainder of the 50 minute workout. It’s a high-intensity interval training class that brings you into a fat-burning zone quicker as participants can burn between 900-1250 calories in one class, according to Jaye.
The General Contractor is Gerardi Construction. With offices in Tampa and San Diego California, Gerardi Construction has been owned and managed by Philip Gerardi since 2000 and specializes in commercial and institutional projects throughout the state of Florida and the Southeast.
“HTG is really excited to be a part of such a fun project. Jaye and her Partner, Esther Solano, have a strong vision of what they want to make happen and are real hands on with this concept. The space will really have a raw, deliberately un-finished, “rough and tumble” kind of attitude, with lots of customized features like the old unfinished west wall that is being enhanced by a street artist to maximize the character of the surface. Gerardi Construction has been terrific with this effort, which has a very short time line, and they work tirelessly to get things done” said Rob Harley, Vice President at HTG Architects.
